ACS offers various forms of PC-linked contact card readers to cater to the varying needs of the user. Combining the latest technology with modern design, PC-linked Readers are designed to meet the user’s needs in different applications, such as in e-Government, e-Banking, e-Payment e-Healthcare, Public Key Infrastructure, Network Security, Access Control, and Loyalty Program.
What is CCID?
CCID stands for Chip/Smart Card Interface Devices. This specification is an approach to smart card reader communication. CCID defines a standard communication protocol for smart card readers that connect to a computer through USB interface, allowing the same host-side driver to communicate with any CCID-compliant smart card reader.

Section 3 : Applications
Is it possible to use a PC-linked Reader with the Android platform?

Can PC-linked Readers access any smart card application?
Yes, the readers can access any smart card-based application as long as your system and application has PC/SC support.
What kind of support is available in terms of application development?
ACS provides a comprehensive software development kit (SDK) to help users to develop the foundation in creating applications using smart card readers. It contains sample codes, tools and utilities, and reference manuals. In addition, technical support is available via email at email@example.com.

Where can I get an updated list of card types supported by PC-linked Readers?
Supported card types are indicated in PC-linked Readers’ respective product manuals, which can be downloaded from http://www.acs.com.hk/en/drivers/.
What types of smart card connectors are used in PC-linked readers? How long do they last?
The PC-linked readers use contact, landing, and sliding connectors. Both contact and sliding connectors guarantee a minimum of 100k insertion cycles, while the landing connector guarantees a minimum of 200k insertion cycles. The landing connector may be used in PC-linked Readers upon request.
